Activists have been working to stop the Ilisu Dam in Turkey, which would flood the 10,000-year-old town of Hasankeyf in the mountains of upper Mesopotamia.
In Brazil, indigenous communities and other people who would be affected by dams are campaigning to stop the Belo Monte Dam on the mighty Xingu River, a tributary of the Amazon.
